FORT WORTH TEEN COURT, founded in 1987 by the Junior League of Fort Worth, is a private/non-profit partnership, administered by the City of Fort Worth and a volunteer Board of Directors. Fort Worth is proud to be one of the founding members of the Teen Court Association of Texas and the Teen Court mock trial competition. Fort Worth hears approximately 700 cases per year using trials, tribunals and attorney plea models depending on the offense.
Teen Court meets on Mondays from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the Fort Worth Southwest Municipal Court. The City of Bryan Teen Court, established in January 2008, is a diversion program designed to offer an alternative to formal juvenile court proceedings. At Teen Court’s sentencing phase hearings, trained Bryan Collegiate High School students volunteer using a Peer Jury format, roughly modeled after the process used by a grand jury, perform the courtroom roles of clerk, bailiff, juror, defense attorney and prosecutor. Teen Court is generally held during the academic school year on every other Thursday with 2 to 6 trials a month. Majority of these cases are traffic and/or theft related.
